(2008): Optimal Control of Nonlinear Processes. With Applications in Drugs,
Corruption, and Terror. Springer, Berlin

This book pushes the boundaries of optimal control, particularly for
problems with multiple equilibria and "tipping points". The authors use
topical applications (illicit drugs, consumption and terror) to provide a
lively exposition spanning from the basics of dynamical systems up through
such advanced topics as differential games, age-distributed control, and
multi-stage models. Numerous exercises address other modern applications
including environmental protection, fashion design, HIV/AIDS control and
health economics, as well as classic applications from marketing,
investment, macroeconomic growth, and the dynamics of the firm. A companion
numerical toolbox allows readers to explore, not just read about, these
diverse applications, complementing the text's overall emphasis on modeling
as well as analysis.
