Dear colleagues,

I’d like to draw your attention to the 1st call for abstracts of the 10th EUROPT Workshop on Advances in Continuous Optimization (EUROPT-2012) (to be held in Siauliai, Lithuania in July). The CfP can be found at the bottom of this message as well as at the Workshop homepage. The deadline for abstracts is end of April, 2012. All contributions related to continuous optimization are warmly welcome.

NOTE: In addition, all members of EUROPT (EURO Working Group of Continuous Optimization) are invited to nominate a candidate as EUROPT Fellow. The call for nominations can be found below. The deadline has been extended till end of January, 2012.

EUROPT Fellowship

Call for Nominations

EUROPT, the Continuous Optimization Working Group of EURO (http://www.iam.metu.edu.tr/EUROPT/), honors researchers in continuous optimization with the EUROPT Fellowship. The fellowship is awarded in a ceremony at EUROPT Workshops based on the decision of the Managing Board of EUROPT. The fellow is expected to give an invited plenary talk at the EUROPT workshop, the EUROPT Fellow Plenary. A gallery of EUROPT

fellows is presented on the EUROPT web page http://www.iam.metu.edu.tr/EUROPT/.

Nomination and Decision

All EUROPT members are eligible to nominate a candidate for the fellowship. The nomination must include a nomination letter of no more than

two pages and a short CV of the candidate. Information of how the candidate matches with the nomination criteria should be included

in the nomination letter. The EUROPT Managing Board is responsible for making the final decision of whether EUROPT fellowship is awarded and if so, who will be awarded. Representatives of the managing board will present the award at the EUROPT Workshop.

Nomination Criteria

To be nominated as EUROPT fellow, a researcher must satisfy one (or preferably) both of the following criteria:

1. Outstanding scientific contributions to continuous optimization, consisting of original theoretical results, innovative applications, or successful software development.

2. Outstanding administrative contributions to the continuous optimization community, in particular to EUROPT.

EUROPT encourages the nomination of candidates whose contributions should receive a wider recognition and who have not yet been honored by prices of other organizations and who are members of EUROPT.

Deadline. The nomination material must be sent in electronic form to the Chair of

EUROPT kaisa.miettinen at jyu.fi no later January 31, 2012.

Yours, Kaisa Miettinen

Chair of EUROPT

-       local nonlinear optimization;

-       global nonlinear optimization;

-       optimal control -- theory and applications;

-       multiobjective optimization;

-       conic optimization and semidefinite programming;

-       semiinfinite optimization;

-       robust optimization;

-       stochastic optimization;

-       large-scale methods in global search;
