Postdoctoral Research Position in Optimization at UW-Madison

We are seeking a postdoc with interests in Optimization to join our group in the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery (WID) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (www.discovery.wisc.edu). WID is the public half of an exciting public-private pair of Institutes that will promote basic research and facilitate the translation of new discoveries to practice.

The WID optimization theme aims to develop and apply optimization technology to systems-level problems emerging in science and engineering applications in an interdisciplinary, integrative, and collaborative fashion. Collaborations with agricultural economics and energy systems researchers will be a focus. Our interests encompass (but are not limited to): (i) Development of core optimization technology and large scale computational methodology; (ii) Planning techniques for integrated modeling that exploit understanding of the physical system; (iii) Application and development of simulation and stochastic optimization techniques; (iv) Use of optimization and statistical methods to understand and predict systems phenomena, even when competition exists between entities; (v) Sparse optimization and image reconstruction leveraging compressed sensing frameworks, optimization algorithms, and powerful computational platforms.

Possible faculty members you may work with include:
  Prof. C. DeMarco, (http://www.engr.wisc.edu/ece/faculty/demarco_christopher.html)
  Prof. M. Ferris, (http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ferris/)
  Prof. B. Lesieutre, (http://www.engr.wisc.edu/ece/faculty/lesieutre_bernard.html)
  Prof. J. Luedtke (http://homepages.cae.wisc.edu/~luedtkej/)
  Prof. J. Linderoth (http://www.engr.wisc.edu/ie/faculty/linderoth_jeffrey.html)
  Prof. B. Recht (http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~brecht)
  Prof. T. Rutherford (http://www.aae.wisc.edu/faculty/tfrutherford)
  Prof. S. Wright (http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~swright/)

The successful candidate will have completed a Ph.D. in Optimization, Operations Research, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or a related field. Experience in working on interdisciplinary research projects is a plus, as is experience with numerical optimization software.

Review of applications starts immediately and the position will remain open until successful candidates have been found.

To apply, interested applicants should send the following information to Herman Stampfli (hstampfli at wisc.edu): (1) their CV including a list of publications, (2) contact details of three reference writers, and (3) a one page description of their experience and research interests related to this position.

For more information, please contact Herman Stampfli (hstampfli at wisc.edu).

UW-Madison is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. We promote excellence through diversity and encourage all qualified individuals to apply.
