The Mathematics and Computer Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory seeks well-prepared candidates for up to four postdoctoral fellow positions in the mathematical optimization group. We seek applicants in the following areas (follow the links for the complete position descriptions and application details):

(a) Constrained nonlinear optimization models and algorithms for large-scale, structured inverse problems for phase retrieval. Requires a strong background in mathematical optimization (nonlinear programming, stochastic/robust optimization), numerical linear algebra, and applied mathematics.

(b) Parallel, multilevel global optimization methods for simulation-constrained problems. Requires a strong background in numerical optimization, operations research, or stochastic methods, as well as experience in parallel computing.

(c) Numerical methods for nonsmooth optimization, including mathematical programs with equilibrium constraints (MPECs) arising from free-boundary PDEs and nonlinear sparse regression. Requires a strong background in nonsmooth analysis, variational inequalities/MPECs, and numerical optimization/linear algebra.

(d) Derivative-free mixed-integer nonlinear optimization. Requires a strong background in mixed-integer programming or derivative-free optimization. Some experience in both areas is desirable, as well as a solid background in numerical analysis.

Openings are available immediately, but there is flexibility in start dates for highly qualified candidates. More information can be obtained from Sven Leyffer (leyffer at mcs.anl.gov), Todd Munson (tmunson at mcs.anl.gov), and Stefan Wild (wild at mcs.anl.gov).
