Book Project Summary and Objectives

Optimized object packings (OOPs) are of significant theoretical as well as
practical interest across various fields in engineering and the natural
sciences. Mathematically and from a computational point of view, OOPs also
represent some of the toughest real-world optimization challenges. The
substantial range of OOP application areas includes e.g. automated
electronic systems design, computational physics / chemistry / biology,
facility and object layout design, manufacturing and production logistics,
material design, loading and transportation logistics, and very large scale
integration.

The book will consist of contributed chapters written by OOP experts. A
significant emphasis will be placed upon modeling paradigms and
computational tools, specifically including nonlinear (global as well as
local) optimization, combinatorial optimization, mixed integer-continuous
optimization, and multiple criteria decision making. Preference will be
given to chapters discussing current OOP applications, and to OOP studies
with an immediate real-world application potential.

Hereby we ask all authors who plan to contribute to this timely volume by a
chapter to send us a max. one-page abstract by email. All contributing
authors will be requested by the Publisher to sign a standard Consent to
Publish document. Please also note that all contributed chapters will be
peer-reviewed; we will appreciate assistance regarding the review process.
