The University of Southampton is a leading UK teaching and research
institution with a global reputation for leading-edge research and
scholarship. It is one of the UK's top 10 research intensive
universities, offering first-rate opportunities for study and research
across a wide range of subjects. CORMSIS, Southampton’s Centre for
Operational Research, Management Science and Information Systems, is
one of the UK’s largest Operational Research and Management Science
(OR/MS) groups and currently contains 35 academic staff based across
three schools: Southampton Business School, Mathematics and Health
Sciences. The 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014) rated
100% of research activity in both Mathematical Sciences and in
Business & Management Studies as of internationally excellent or
world-leading quality in terms of its real-world impact and the
quality of the research environment.

CORMSIS has a strong enterprise focus and excellent track record in
terms of collaborative working with business and industry. It has an
international reputation in the areas of optimisation, transportation
& logistics, cutting & packing, finance, and risk analysis. It has a
Business Advisory Board with members from external organizations
including BT, the AA, JP Morgan, DSTL, RNLI, Tesco and British
Airways. The Board provides active input to all aspects of the work of
CORMSIS, including advice on curriculum content, delivery of case
studies on our five MSc programmes, and ideas/contacts for prospective
research and consultancy.

We are seeking to appoint a 1.0 FTE Research Fellow whose primary role
is to support research and consultancy of CORMSIS members. You will
support the development of new bids and where appropriate, be directly
involved in the modelling work. You will be encouraged, and supported,
to conduct and publish your own research, and undertake some teaching
and MSc dissertation supervision. The previous three post-holders have
all gone on to be offered Lectureships within CORMSIS.

You should hold, or be about to hold, a PhD in Operational Research,
Management Science or related quantitative discipline, either
completed or passed with minor corrections. You may have had some
post-doctoral research experience, although this is not essential.
Ideally you will have a broad range of OR skills and some programming
expertise.

Salary in the range £28,695 to £35,256, depending on experience.

The post is tenable from 1 September 2015 or as soon as possible
thereafter. Interviews will be held late August 2015.
