The Institute of Mathematics at TU Berlin invites applications for a 

Junior Pro­fess­or­ship - salary grade W1 - with tenure track
for the field of "Dis­crete Optim­iz­a­tion in the Con­text of Big Data”.

Work­ing field:

The pos­i­tion requires research and teach­ing and an inter­na­tion­ally vis­ible pro­file in the area of Dis­crete Optim­iz­a­tion.
The research focus of the pos­i­tion is expec­ted to be a branch of Dis­crete Optim­iz­a­tion at the inter­face with the area of Algorithms for Big Data. Fur­ther­more, cooper­a­tions with the cur­rent pro­fess­ors at the Insti­tute of Math­em­at­ics as well as particip­a­tion in exist­ing and future col­lab­or­at­ive research pro­jects of all math­em­at­ical insti­tutes in Ber­lin (Research Cen­ter MATHEON, Ein­stein Cen­ter for Math­em­at­ics Ber­lin, Ber­lin Math­em­at­ical School etc.) are expec­ted.
Teach­ing will be required in all math­em­at­ical degree pro­grams and mod­er­ately in the ser­vice teach­ing of math­em­at­ics for other pro­grams. Teach­ing require­ments shall be met in Ger­man and Eng­lish. Can­did­ates are expec­ted to super­vise stu­dents’ theses as well as to par­ti­cip­ate in the aca­demic admin­is­tra­tion of the uni­versity.

Require­ments:

Suc­cess­ful applic­ants must ful­fill the require­ments for appoint­ment at the pro­fessor level in com­pli­ance with § 102a Ber­lHG (Ber­lin Higher Edu­ca­tion Act), includ­ing a com­pleted aca­demic edu­ca­tion in math­em­at­ics or a com­par­able sub­ject, qual­i­fied achieve­ments in research and a par­tic­u­lar qual­i­fic­a­tion for aca­demic work nor­mally attested by the excel­lent qual­ity of a PhD, and ped­ago­gical didactic qual­i­fic­a­tions, to be proven by teach­ing exper­i­ence and visu­al­ized in a teach­ing port­fo­lio (for fur­ther inform­a­tion see TUB Web­site, quick as no. 144242).
Inter­na­tion­ally vis­ible research res­ults in the area of Dis­crete Optim­iz­a­tion have to be proven through rel­ev­ant pub­lic­a­tions. Exper­i­ence in acquir­ing and car­ry­ing out pro­jects and pro­ject alli­ances involving third-party fund­ing are desir­able.
