Dear Colleagues,

We would like to invite you to contribute to the Algorithms journal
Special Issue on
“Online Algorithms for Optimization Problems”.

The ability to deal with uncertainty is an important topic in all
subfields of computer science. The last decade has seen a growing
number of papers dealing with this vital subject. One well-known way
to handle uncertain inputs is to construct online algorithms that
receive their input over time, as a way to maintain temporary
solutions. Importantly, the decisions of these algorithms cannot be
reverted. While pure online algorithms exist for a wide range of
optimization problems, other important problems require a weaker model
in semi-online algorithms that allow a certain amount of reversion.
Prominent ways to measure the amount of revisions are recourse and
migration factor.

For this Special Issue on “Online Algorithms for Optimization
Problems”, we welcome papers concerned with all fields of
optimization. Works in both pure online and in semi-online models are
suited to this Special Issue.

The submission manuscript deadline is *30 September 2020*; however,
submissions are continuously reviewed and published as soon as
accepted. Submissions will undergo the normal peer-review process. For
more details please visit the website:
https://www.mdpi.com/journal/algorithms/special_issues/online_optimization

Please let us know within a month or as soon as possible if you and
your colleagues
are interested in submitting a manuscript for this special issue.
If more time is needed, please feel free to tell us
({seb,kj}@informatik.uni-kiel.de).
Your contribution would be most welcome.

Please feel free to share this invitation with your team members and
colleagues; co-authors are most welcome.

The journal Algorithms (http://www.mdpi.com/journal/algorithms, Prof.
Dr. Frank Werner Editor-in-Chief) is EI, ESCI and Scopus indexed and
fully open access. Open access (unlimited and free access by readers)
increases publicity and promotes more frequent citations, as indicated
by several studies. As open access is supported by the authors and
their institutes, an Article Processing Charge of *CHF 1000* applies
to accepted papers for this Special Issue. If your institute is
participating in the MDPI Institutional Open Access Program
(http://www.mdpi.com/about/ioap) or if you have previously received a
discount code then you may be entitled to a discount.

We look forward to hear from you and  work with you on a very
promising Special Issue. To help us with our planning,

Kind regards,

Guest Editors

Prof. Dr. Klaus Jansen (Kiel University, Germany)

SUBMISSION INFORMATION:

For further details on the submission process, please see Instructions
for Authors at the journal website
(http://www.mdpi.com/journal/algorithms/instructions).

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously nor be
under consideration for publication elsewhere, except for in
conference proceedings. All submissions will be thoroughly refereed
through a peer-review process. Manuscripts should be submitted online
at www.mdpi.com after registering and logging in.

Accepted articles will be published continuously in the journal (as
soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue
website. A guide for authors and other information related to the
submission of manuscripts is available on the "Instructions for
Authors" page. The article processing charge for publication in this
open access journal is also listed on the journal's webpage.
Responding to this invitation gives a discount.

Deadline: The deadline for manuscript submissions is 30 September 2020.

About the journal: Algorithms (ISSN 1999-4893; CODEN: ALGOCH) is an
international open access journal of computer science, theory, methods
and interdisciplinary applications, data and information systems,
software engineering, artificial intelligence, automation, and control
systems. It is published online quarterly by MDPI.
