The Berlin Cluster of Excellence MATH+ is a dynamic interdisciplinary
research center that focuses on application-driven mathematical research
relevant to our society. Its three main goals are to train highly skilled
young mathematicians across the entire breadth of mathematics, to develop
innovative application-oriented mathematics with a focus on data-driven
modelling, simulation, and optimization, and to open up new mathematical
thinking spaces. MATH+ is supported by Berlin mathematics as a whole in
cooperation with other scientific disciplines. Moreover, MATH+ strives to
communicate its findings actively to the general public.

MATH+ funds positions for heads of independent junior research groups in
application-driven basic mathematical research, in order to strengthen
support for excellent young researchers who already have some years of
postdoc experience, and to give them a head start in building their own
research profile and group within the supportive environment of a large
Cluster of Excellence.

We are looking for a highly motivated and scientifically outstanding
researcher in the area of computational inverse problems with an emphasis
on statistical approaches including the quantification of uncertainties. We
are particularly interested in researchers working on problems related to
partial differential equations or large-scale data. Application areas of
interest include image processing and sustainable energy and markets. The
successful candidate fits the scope of the Berlin Cluster of Excellence
MATH+ and complements the scientific profile of the Institute of
Mathematics at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, while exhibiting a large
cooperation potential within Berlin mathematics and neighbouring
disciplines.

Job Description:
Leadership of a junior research group in the area of statistical inversion
and quantification of uncertainties (limited until December 31, 2025);
research in computational inverse problems with an emphasis on statistical
approaches including the quantification of uncertainties and problems
related to partial differential equations or large-scale data

Requirements:
Master’s degree in Mathematics or equivalent and PhD in Mathematics;
excellent knowledge in mathematical statistics and uncertainty
quantification; very good written and spoken English skills

Application:
Please send your application, quoting the reference number DR/167/20, to
Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural
Sciences, Department of Mathematics, Prof. Tischendorf, Unter den Linden 6,
10099 Berlin, Germany. Your application must include a curriculum vitae,
copies of certificates and documents, a detailed description of your
teaching experience as well as current and future research projects and a
list of publications with up to three selected reprints. The application
