We seek an outstanding candidate for a Lectureship in Operational Research within the School of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Southampton.
You will have a track record of excellent research, ideally with interests that enhance or complement our existing strengths in deterministic and stochastic Operational Research, analytics, stochastic simulation, or mathematical optimisation.
You should hold a PhD (or equivalent professional qualifications and experience) in Operational Research or another relevant discipline, and be able to deliver high quality teaching in a range of topics in Operational Research at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
In the latest 2022 QS World University Rankings, Operational Research (along with Statistics) at Southampton was ranked 7th in the UK and 34th in the world. The University of Southampton is part of the Alan Turing Institute for Data Science & Artificial Intelligence, and has an ethos of promoting collaborative methodological research across disciplinary boundaries. This is exemplified by both Mathematical Sciences and Operational Research, which brings together broad groups of mathematicians who collaborate widely across the University and beyond. Operational Research has a varied set of external partners, including government agencies and departments, such as the NHS, as well as credit scoring, digital economy, energy, game theory, and transport and logistics.
You will also become a member of CORMSIS, the Centre for Operational Research, Management Science and Information Systems that bring together the Operational Research group in Mathematical Sciences and the department of Decision, Analytics and Risk in the Southampton Business School. CORMSIS is the largest OR/MS/IS groups in the UK, covering the whole spectrum of current OR/MS/IR activity from theoretical developments to problem structuring and knowledge management.

We are open to applications from 0.8 full time equivalent to full time.  This position is a permanent post tenable from 3 January 2023 or from a mutually agreed later date, with interviews being held in October 2022. As part of the interview process candidates will be invited to give a presentation which demonstrated their research profile and provide a short teaching focused lecture.
