Special session on Optimization for forecasting at MIC 2024

Optimization and forecasting are interconnected, if only because
optimized outcomes are typically meant to be applied in future settings.
Business analytics, in its variants of predictive analytics and
prescriptive analytics, builds on this, including forecasting and
optimization tasks. However, these tasks are frequently separated and
lack cohesion. There have been studies on data uncertainty, but until
recently little work has been done on integrated approaches,
specifically on optimization methods applied to forecasting. The recent
growth of AI has introduced new, effective approaches, whereas
forecasting algorithms were previously primarily based on statistical
considerations.

Given the growing awareness of the interplay between optimization and
AI, which has made it a hot topic for meta- and matheuristics, this
session aims to focus on the connection between optimization and
forecasting, whether based on AI or other techniques. The goal is to
provide a platform for exchanging ideas, raising awareness of recent
developments, and stimulating discussions on the intersection of these
two areas.

Submissions to the session follow the same process as regular conference
submissions, simply select the session from the drop-down field on the
Easychair submission page at
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=mic2024.
