At the university location Graz with three universities, there is an established interdisciplinary cooperation network of several research groups in the areas of Inverse Problems, Machine Learning, Optimization and Optimal Control, and Medical Image Processing. The advertised faculty position is part of the research group "Optimization and Optimal Control" at the Institute of Mathematics and Scientific Computing at the University of Graz, and is closely integrated into this cooperation network. The position focuses on research in continuous, infinite-dimensional optimization (analysis and numerics), especially nonsmooth, pde-constrained, and/or stochastic optimization. In addition to cooperation within the group "Optimization and Optimal Control", the position is characterized by a high degree of autonomy; there is the possibility to conduct independent research, apply for third-party funding projects, teach courses, and supervise theses.

Am Universitätsstandort Graz mit drei Universitäten gibt es ein etabliertes interdisziplinäres Kooperationsnetzwerk mehrerer Forschungsgruppen in den Bereichen Inverse Probleme, Maschinelles Lernen, Optimierung und Optimale Steuerung sowie Medizinische Bildverarbeitung. Die ausgeschriebene Stelle ist Teil der Forschungsgruppe "Optimierung und Optimale Steuerung" am Institut für Mathematik und Wissenschaftliches Rechnen der Universität Graz und ist eng in dieses Kooperationsnetzwerk eingebunden. Der Schwerpunkt der Stelle liegt in der Forschung auf dem Gebiet der kontinuierlichen, unendlich-dimensionalen Optimierung (Analyse und Numerik), insbesondere der nicht-glatten, pde-restringierten und/oder stochastischen Optimierung. Neben der Zusammenarbeit innerhalb der Gruppe "Optimierung und Optimale Steuerung" zeichnet sich die Stelle durch ein hohes Maß an Eigenständigkeit aus; es besteht die Möglichkeit, eigenständig zu forschen, Drittmittelprojekte zu beantragen, Lehrveranstaltungen durchzuführen und Dissertationen zu betreuen.
