Hi,

Information below about two funded PhD positions in the Doctoral Programme in Information Technology at Åbo Akademi University, Finland.

Åbo Akademi University has a long tradition in developing software for mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) and related optimization problem classes.

The research can be related to, e.g., optimization software development of the Supporting Hyperplane Optimization Toolkit (SHOT, http://www.shotsolver.dev) MINLP solver, solver development of distributed optimization methods for ML, or other topics.

Please contact me if you are interested in applying. Note that the deadline is already September 30th.

Regards,

The Faculty of Science and Engineering<https://www.abo.fi/en/about-abo-akademi-university/faculties/faculty-of-science-and-engineering/> at Åbo Akademi University offers 2 funded positions for doctoral researchers (3 years/position) within the doctoral pilot in Software Engineering (Software)<https://www.abo.fi/en/research-at-aau/postgraduate-and-doctoral-studies/doctoral-education-pilots-at-abo-akademi-university/>.

Software engineering is a discipline and research field that entails designing, developing, maintaining, and managing software systems. Its role is essential in most areas of business and society, and a high level of software engineering knowledge and expertise is needed for success. The Software Engineering Pilot invests in doctoral education in software engineering, aligns it with real-world industry needs, and promotes academic-industry collaboration. The initiative gathers all nine universities that offer doctoral education in software engineering in Finland and creates a national environment for high quality academic work with industrial relevance.

The positions are available within the doctoral programme in Information Technology (main subjects: Computer Engineering, Computer Science) at ÅAU. The positions start (in principle) on January 1, 2025.

The doctoral degree promotes the appointees’ future career orientation and prepares for work as an independent researcher or in demanding expert work in the academic and other work life-sectors.
