New Book : Optimal Quadratic Programming and QCQP Algorithms with
Applications by Zdenek Dostal, Springer, November 2025

The book presents cutting-edge algorithms for minimizing large-scale
quadratic functions subject to linear or separable quadratic constraints
(QCQP). While applying these algorithms to the class of problems with the
spectrum confined to a positive interval, the theory guarantees the
approximate solution with prescribed precision by a uniformly bounded number
of simple iterations, such as matrix-vector multiplications or gradient
projections.

Key concepts explored include new variants of the active set strategy,
spectral gradients, gradient projections, and augmented Lagrangian methods.
The book presents new variants of classical algorithms, supported by a
quantitative convergence theory, which avoids unspecified constants. Through
numerical experiments, the author demonstrates the superior performance of
the algorithms, particularly in handling huge problems with sparse Hessian
matrices.

The performance of the algorithms is shown on large-scale problems (up to
billions of variables) in mechanics, optimal control, and support vector
machines.  The benchmarks demonstrate how to exploit specific information
about the problem in the choice and modification of fundamental algorithms.

The 12th edition of the Winter School will take place at the Hotel Londres
(https://www.hotelondres.com/en/) , Estoril, from the 19th  to the 23rd of
January 2026.
In the spirit of the previous editions, the main objective of the school is
to provide an opportunity for PhD students to get together and attend high
level courses in the field of Network Optimization.


In this edition of the school, the lecturers and subjects to be addressed
are:

Optimization


Martine Labb? - (Bi)Linear Bilevel Optimization Problems: models, algorithms
and applications


Ivana Ljubic - Network Resilience and Vulnerability: Protecting the Critical

Giovani Rinaldi - QUBO: exact, heuristic, and quantum methods.

Hande Yaman - Covering problems and length bounded connectivity



The school is part of the activities of the ENOG  (European Network
Optimization Group).
