Dear colleagues,
Let me invite you to submit an abstract for special sessions on
optimization we organize at NUMTA2026 conference. Extended deadline
for one page abstracts is March 21.
5th International Conference and Summer School NUMTA-2026
"Numerical Computations: Theory and Algorithms"
June 21-27, 2026 - ITALY

NUMTA 2026 Special Session on Discrete optimization: Methods and applications
Special Session Organizers:
• Algirdas Lančinskas – Vilnius University, Lithuania, email:
algirdas.lancinskas (at) mif.vu.lt
• Julius Žilinskas – Vilnius University, Lithuania, email:
julius.zilinskas (at) mif.vu.lt
The session focuses on methods for solving discrete single- and multi-objective
optimization problems, including, but not limited to, exact or
approximation methods,
heuristics, and metaheuristics. The scope of the session also includes
applications of
discrete optimization methods in operations research, data analysis,
modeling, decision
support systems, and related areas. The session also covers robust
optimization, stochastic
and uncertainty-aware discrete optimization methods, with a focus on handling
incomplete or uncertain data. It also includes research that combines
discrete optimization
with artificial intelligence techniques to enhance the performance and
applicability of
optimization methods. Both theoretical studies and applied research presenting
computational experiments or real-world case studies are welcome.
NUMTA 2026 Special Session on Advanced numerical methods for
continuous global optimization
Special Session Organizers:
• Julius Žilinskas – Vilnius University, Lithuania, email:
julius.zilinskas (at) mif.vu.lt
• Dmitri Kvasov – University of Calabria, Italy, email: kvadim (at)
dimes.unical.it
In this session, optimization problems characterized by single or
multiple continuous objective functions with several local
optima—typically of unknown and potentially very large number—and
known as global optimization problems are considered. Such functions
arise in many applications; however, the associated problems often
cannot be solved using traditional optimization techniques that rely
on strong assumptions about the objective function (such as convexity
or differentiability). This limitation explains the growing interest
among researchers in developing advanced numerical methods to address
this challenging class of problems. Related contributions are welcome.
FOR SPECIAL SESSION PARTICIPANTS: Please contact the organizers of the
session to inform that you want to join the session when submitting
your abstract. When submitting, check the box “This abstract is for a
special session” (however there is no option to specify the session in
the system).
Conference: The 5th Triennial International Conference and Summer
School "Numerical Computations: Theory and Algorithms NUMTA-2026" will
be held (in hybrid format) from 21 to 27 June 2026 in Calabria, Italy,
at the all-inclusive resort “Falkensteiner Garden Calabria” located on
the Tyrrhenian coast near the Lamezia Terme international airport.
Publications: A book of one-page abstracts will be available on the
conference webpage. Participants regularly registered for NUMTA may
also submit their full papers to the post-conference proceedings,
which will be published in the Springer LNCS series. Short papers
(6-8+ pages) and long papers (12-15+ pages) must present original
research and will undergo standard peer review. Special issues in
internationally recognized journals will also be organized.
Best regards,
Julius Žilinskas
