Assistant Research Professor in Applied Mathematics [Job Posting RF01473]

The University of Colorado Denver invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Mathematical and  Statistical Sciences starting in August 2015, or January 2016, subject to final budgetary approval. The initial appointment will be for a  nine-month appointment during the academic year, with possible renewal  for a second academic year subject to satisfactory performance review and availability of funds.

PhD degree or equivalent in Mathematics or a related area is required. Preference will be given to candidates in Optimization and Operations Research. Interest in teaching Math Clinic, an industrial project-oriented course, is particularly welcome.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach two classes per semester, work with graduate students on research projects, develop original research under the mentorship of current faculty, and participate actively in the life of the department. The salary for this nine-month position is $55,000 and is benefits-eligible.

The Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences currently has 17 tenured or tenure-track faculty whose research and teaching cover a wide  range of areas, including optimization and operations research; graph theory and combinatorics; computational and engineering mathematics; computational biology; math education; probability and statistics; data assimilation and quantification of uncertainty. The Department has approximately 45 Ph.D. students, 25 M.S. students, and 150 undergraduate mathematics majors.
